Pronouns
Pronoun is a word used instead of a noun.
Example:
Joshi painted a picture. Joshi gave the picture to Sita. Sita got the picture.
Here the nouns (Joshi, Picture, Sita) are repeated. Instead we can use he, it, she.
Joshi painted a picture. He gave it to Sita. She got it.
KINDS OF PRONOUNS
There are 9 kinds of Pronouns. They are,
1. Personal Pronoun
2. Reflexive Pronoun
3. Emphatic Pronoun
4. Demonstrative Pronoun
5. Indefinite Pronoun
6. Interrogative Pronoun
7. Distributive Pronoun
8. Reciprocal Pronoun
9. Relative Pronoun.
PERSONAL PRONOUN
A. FIRST PERSON- stands for person speaking- I, My, Mine, me, our, ours
Examples:
I have a car.
A friend gave me the watch.
Our house is new.
The laptop is ours.
My watch is new.
B. SECOND PERSON -stands for person spoken to- You, Yours, Your
Examples:
who gave you these books?
Which is your house?
Is this pen yours?
C. THIRD PERSON- stands for anyone or anything else- He, His, Him, She, Her, Hers, They, Their, Them, It, its.
Example:
He has a camera.
This is his Camera.
A friend gave him the camera.
She has a necklace.
It is her necklace.
The book is hers.
They have a radio.
REFLEXIVE PRONOUN ( Myself, Yourself, himself, herself, themselves, ourselves)
It is a pronoun that refers to a preceding noun or pronoun within the same clause. They refer back to the person or thing. It usually objects of the verb.
Example:
I enjoyed Myself
She enjoyed herself.
EMPHATIC PRONOUN (Myself, Yourself, himself, herself, themselves, ourselves)
It placed immediately after the noun or pronoun.
Example.
She herself opened the door.
I myself will take you there.
DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS (This, That, These, Those)
It is a pronoun that points to a particular person, place or things.
Example:
This is my book
These are chocolates.
That is an old house.
INDEFINITE PRONOUNS ( Nobody, No one, Nothing, Somebody, Someone, Something, Anybody, Anyone, Anything, Everybody, Everyone, Everything)
It do not refer any person or things in particular but are used in general way.
Examples:
I didn't buy anything
I know Something about it.
Anybody could have told you that.
INTERROGATIVE PRONOUNS (which, what, whose, who)
It is a pronoun which is used to introduce questions.
Examples:
Who brought the letter here?
what is your name?
Which is the best solution?
DISTRIBUTIVE PRONOUNS (each, either, neither, none)
It referring to each individual of a class.
Examples.
Each of Students has finished their work
There is fruit Salad or Ice cream. you can choose either.
RECIPROCAL PRONOUN (each other, one another)
Examples:
They couldn't stop arguing with each other.
They won't talk to one another.
